…can become friends in the future! Who knew?

Have you ever met someone & started talking to him or her, only realizing that you have both been at the same place at the same time before, but never met? It’s kind of crazy, like the “universe” was trying to pull you together, but you just didn’t connect?

There are four examples that come to mind for me and I’m sure there are more than these few experiences below, but these are the four I can think of.

  1. I met Manny through some friends in Los Angeles probably around 2010. I forget how we officially met, but we instantly became dancing buddies. My fondest memory of him was at an afternoon house party & we turned the living room into a dance floor. Neither of us cared that the house was filled with sunlight (in comparison to a dark, flashing light filled dance club). We just danced & enjoyed ourselves.
During one of our many times hanging out we realized we had both lived in Nashville. I don’t know how we got on to the topic of Mat Kearney, a favorite musician of mine (and old friend from my Nashville days) but in the midst of discussing him we both realized we were at the same acoustic concert of Mat’s in the Barnes & Noble on West End in Nashville!
  2. I met Todd during my second season of living in Nashville in the fall of 2014 at a songwriter’s workshop. He mentioned that he lived in Los Angeles some of the time & Nashville the rest of the time. I just randomly started mentioning musician friends of mine in LA and brought up the band Carney. Carney used to play at Molly Malone’s in LA every Monday night & I would attend to sell merchandise for one of their opening acts Adjoa Skinner. Todd mentioned that he would often go see them play!
  3. During my brief time living in San Diego (2011) a friend of mine was having an art show fundraiser. I purchased a small, frame photograph which still hangs on my bedroom wall. Years later (probably around 2016) I was at a women’s group & Morgan, who is from San Diego was there. We got to talking and realized we were both at the art show years earlier!
  4. The songwriting workshop mentioned in #2 was at a recording studio and I remember seeing the studio manager Sorrel doing her thing, but didn’t get a chance to meet her. Fast forward to 2016 and we find ourselves going to the same church!

Leave in the comments times where you’ve met someone who perhaps years later was a “stranger” in the same room!
